Greenland Paddle Making Workshop – Instructor: Rod Tait

This workshop introduces participants to the design and construction of a traditional Greenland-style kayak paddle. Using a solid wood blank, participants will learn layout, shaping, and carving techniques that emphasize efficiency, balance, and comfort on the water. Instruction focuses on hand-tool use, including planes and spokeshaves, as well as sanding and finishing methods.

This is an excellent course for paddlers, boaters, and anyone interested in traditional paddle design and craftsmanship.

Skill level: Beginner to intermediate

Outcome: One completed Greenland paddle
