2-day Oar Making Workshop – Instructor: Mike Bretner
This hands-on workshop guides participants through the process of crafting a traditional wooden oar from start to finish. Participants will learn about oar design, layout, balance, and blade shape, then use hand tools such as planes, spokeshaves, and rasps to shape their oar. The course includes instruction on fairing, sanding, and finishing techniques to ensure strength, durability, and comfort in use.
No prior experience is required. Participants will leave with a completed oar and a solid foundation in traditional woodworking and boat-related tool skills.
Skill level: Beginner to intermediate
Outcome: One finished wooden oar
